Sea trials
When I left the sea -
however, the sea never leaves you.... - I kept working
in a maritime environment and in that position I attended many sea trials of all
types of ships. My company installed radio and navigational equipment such as
radio stations, satellite communication equipment, radars, echo sounders,
direction finders, electronic speed logs and others. I was responsible for the
discussions with the yards in preparation of the installation of the delivered
equipment, for the supervision during the actual installation, putting into
operation of the equipment up to and including the sea trials. During the sea
trials all equipment was tested and the ship's officers were instructed in the
operation of the equipment, mainly the radar and echo sounding equipment. It was
a very nice period in my career and apart from the responsibilities which I
liked, I had lots of freedom and was always on the move to visit the yards and new builds
in a
wide area. There was a great variety of ships which I worked on: small yachts,
big yachts with more equipment than most deep sea vessels, sea going dredgers,
supply vessels, freighters, tank ships and many others. Never a dull day.

Pomme & Kelly
We are very proud to announce the first inductees to the
Gidol Hall of Fame are the wonderful Dutch duo, Pomme
& Kelly.
After storming through their first two round with convincing
wins, they met the ever popular Back Dormitory Boys in the
Grand Final, but their skill, enthusiasm and electric personality
brought them home in style and they walked away with the
glory.
We at Gidol were very proud to present Pomme & Kelly
with a few additional prizes on top of their world-wide
super-stardom. We were able to offer them one years free
hosting and domain provided by our friends at Lunarpages.
And also, a US$250 cash donation will be made to the charity
of their choice.
