sts W. Alton Jones (2nd) This pictures shows the second W. Alton Jones (PIMH) which was built in 1959 in Sweden and carrying the Dutch flag. The name of 'W. Alton Jones' comes from the person with that name who became Cities Service's president in 1942. He gained much prestige during the period that he served the company and probably due to that fact the biggest ship of the company was traditionally named after him. As the two new ships which were built in Sweden became the biggest in the fleet now , one of them was named after this president. The second ship was called Burl. S Watson, callsign PDHS. The W. Alton Jones on which I sailed was therefore renamed to Cities Service Valley Forge. There is also the 'W. Alton Jones Foundation' For a short description click on the blue underlined name. The second W. Alton Jones was built in 1959 by the Swedish yard Sörviksvarvet A/B at Uddevalla, Sweden. Owners were the N.V. Scheepvaart Mij.
